In March of 1993, Benchmark Transportation Services, Inc. was incorporated to assist several very large international freight forwarders in the movement of their domestic air and ground cargo shipments.

The management of Benchmark has always had a very strong background in the international movement of cargo, so in 1996 the board of directors voted to expand its service to include import and export via air. Our international services were complimented by one of the most comprehensive and service oriented overseas agency networks in the industry. Benchmark management has been doing business with these agents for over 20 years in different capacities.

In 1997, the Benchmark board voted to acquire their federal maritime commission NVOCC and freight forwarding license, thereby enhancing its service to ocean import and export. Shortly thereafter, a name change was agreed upon to better describe the company and to show how the company could service the shipping and purchasing community.

For years, Benchmark has been performing 3PL on a “M.R.I. Pick and Ship” basis for several manufacturers in Canada, Dominican Republic, and Taiwan. Early in 1997 an outsourcing contract was awarded to Benchmark which would encompass all traffic functions for the world’s largest prophylactic/glove manufacturer in the world. This contract has been renewed for the past five years.

This same year, we celebrated the birth of our project division. This division has been and is currently engaged in the relocation of power generation plants, 150 ton turbines, generators, transformers, and accessories. Our project managers have visited Korea, Senegal, China, Dominican Republic, Singapore, Colombia, Japan, and many European countries in order to personally supervise handling and shipping activities. Other projects include the movement of oversized construction equipment, manufacturing plants, pleasure crafts (yachts), the break down of large cranes and heavy manufacturing machinery (steel presses etc.).

The international thrust of Benchmark Worldwide Transport, Inc. has been very successful. In the past 12 months, operations have been established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Doha, Qatar and Singapore.
